With more than 40 million square feet of real estate in its portfolio, LeFrak, a New York based, privately-held firm, is a worldwide leader in real estate development and management. LeFrak affiliates today own and manage an extensive portfolio of real property concentrated in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area, as well as South Florida, Los Angeles and throughout the West Coast. Although we focus on the residential and office sectors, LeFrak affiliates also invest in numerous hospitality and retail assets. Through our affiliated companies, we have developed and built the majority of our own real estate portfolio to become one of the world’s leading property firms, leveraging our internal development and construction management capabilities. The LeFrak brand is synonymous with excellence in design, construction, engineering, and urban planning, and our firm is acclaimed around the globe for the quality of its projects and its properties, its financial strength and conservatism, its entrepreneurial business model and its commitment to long term ownership.
For more than a century, LeFrak has fulfilled its vision of transforming urban tracts into vibrant communities. Its development in Newport, NJ – a 300-acre expanse overlooking the Hudson River with skyline views of New York City- is one of the nation’s largest and most successful master-planned, mixed-use state-of-the-art communities. In the 1980s, Jersey City began a crucial turnaround. In 1984, the LeFrak Organization acquired the 300 acres of Hudson River waterfront that would become Newport. The site was a devastated rail yard at the time, and developers recoiled from a place that seemed to defy rebirth. The LeFrak team saw instead enormous potential – from unique views of the Manhattan skyline to major transportation access – and they determined to invest in their vision. Today, Newport consists of 4,700 residential units, 5 million square feet of class “A” office space, 616 hotel rooms, 1.7 million square feet of retail, 2 million square feet of on-site parking, and a 1.5-mile long waterfront esplanade, with additional new developments currently in progress.
